Welcome to June! And welcome to my (belated) All Aboard for June 2025, where I share a bit more about the upcoming month.
June is one of those months I tend to enjoy. Maybe it’s the energy of summer officially starting, or Pride kicking off, or people starting to get freckly and sun-kissed, or the fact that no one seems to be working too hard. There’s an electricity about it that doesn’t compare to any other month.
And because of that, on May 31st, I drove 11 hours from New Mexico to LA in one day just I could go out with my friends on the first weekend of Pride. I was on a 30 hour road trip from Missouri, where I had been visiting family for five weeks, but the pull of this magical month was too strong so I rolled my sleeves up, drank a celsius and half, and got my ass home in time to drunkenly buy a pink cowboy hat on the streets of West Hollywood as June 1st began.
Some immediate June thoughts:
Spoiler alert: They’re all about Love Island
Love Island USA isn’t hitting yet, but I am HOLDING OUT HOPE. I feel very ‘Stevie Nicks singing Silver Springs to/at Lindsey Buckingham in 1997’ about Love Island Season 6 right now, and I’m missing PPG more than I feel is appropriate. Also, the men (and I use that term loosely in this instance) are giving me NOTHING. No pizazz, no charm, no BOMBSHELL energy. God take me back to Miguel and Kenny…
Love Island UK hasn’t started airing in the US yet, but I already have high expectations. Love Island UK used to be *my* show. It used to be my little secret. It used to be my favorite UK-based dating show (minus Naked Attraction, of course) because it was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. But the last few seasons have been a total snoozefest. Last season was so bad I quit in the middle and fully focused on LIUSA (which was the right move considering how perfect last season of LIUSA was). But I’m ready for 2025 to bring back LIUK in a BIG way, so let’s get to it, babes.
Anyway, I’ll get off my Love Island soapbox because that isn’t what this post is really about and let’s get into some….
New June Releases I Can’t Wait For:
June 15th: Sister Wives season 19 finale (!!!!!!!) on TLC
I CANNOT quit you, Sister Wives. And I’ve been there since the beginning. Viewing party, anyone?
June 17th: Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston
Ashley Poston, my beloved! She wrote The Seven Year Itch, which is one of my favorite contemporary romances. She has become a must-read author for me! And this? Bitter musician…hit-making songwriter…coming together to make beautiful music? Sounds like a plan to ME!
June 18th: We Were Liars on Prime Video
One of my favorite YA thrillers has an adaptation coming out, and I’m excited. I genuinely don’t remember what happened in this book, but I do remember liking it, and the show looks great!
June 24th: Ironheart on Disney+
Riri Williams, baby! I’m super excited for this, especially after a few Marvel TV show misses (Secret Invasion, I’m looking at you), and I kinda feel like Marvel is back?!? Is this a recession indicator?
June 24th: Don’t Let Him In by Lisa Jewell
Like Ashley Poston, Lisa Jewell is on my immediate-read list. Super excited for another installment in her run of excellent thrillers. This one revolves around three women who are connected by one man (never good) and looks promising!
In addition to all that fun content coming out, there are a few…
June Things On The Horizon, I Want To Focus On:
Community Care: With ICE’s presence in Los Angeles, it’s more important than ever to care for one another, to support mutual aid organizations, to make your voice known and heard. We may not always be able to go to protests, but showing up for one another and knowing what to do if you encounter ICE or see someone being questioned or detained is vitally important.
Summer Syrups: I mapped out such a fun project for myself this summer…. One of those projects is my ‘Summer Syrup Series’ where I’ll share a syrup each week of summer, along with drinks, food, and more you can make with it!
Cooking For All: I have been contributing to my local Community Fridges since I discovered them in 2020, and it’s been a way I can help those in my community who need food and water. It’s a way I can use some of my skills (cooking!) to nourish those who need it.
DOWNSIZING: I am a certified packrat. Trinket lover. Book collector. Maximalist. I will always have more stuff than the average person, but I also look at my house and just see that stuff in the way of so much more. My goal for June is to get rid of/give away/sell/trash one thing every single day.
Drizzilicious: Just moments ago, I discovered the mini-rice cake snack, Drizzilicious. I’m forever changed. The bags say they’re “irresistible,” and I didn’t quite believe them because I’m a snack connoisseur, but BOY WAS I WRONG! I demolished a bag of S’mores Drizzleicious in moments and don’t foresee myself slowing down anytime soon. I want to lean into this feeling for June.
Ta for now!
